Frank Porte, who competed in the first round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux at Spa last Saturday, left the legendary Ardennes circuit with valuable points that have placed him in provisional third place in the championship.
It must be said that despite having come very close to an even better result, the driver completed a very positive start to the season at Spa, demonstrating speed, consistency, and great potential from the first sessions of the weekend. And when I say “came close to a better result”, I say it because in the first of the two races, the Andorran driver took the lead in the early stages of the race after a dizzying start. Unfortunately, however, race control brought out the red flag and the start had to be repeated.

After free practice sessions in which the driver and his team focused on finding the necessary rhythm, as well as adapting to the track limits, Porté achieved a very good performance in qualifying, setting a fast lap that allowed him to secure third position for the first race and fifth for the second.
When the first round arrived, the Andorran started spectacularly, making a risky start that placed him in the lead already entering the first corner. However, a series of incidents unrelated to the driver ended in a red flag, which forced the race to be stopped and restarted again.
Once the race restarted for the second time, Porte again showed a very competitive pace that left him close to the leader. Nevertheless, a five-second penalty ultimately relegated him to fourth place.
In the second race, the driver opted to maintain a solid and consistent pace to hold onto fifth place until the end, the same position from which he started, essentially to accumulate very important points in this newly launched championship.
Thanks to the result obtained, Porté left Spa in third place in the provisional championship standings, only a few points behind the leader.
The next round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux calendar will take place in Zandvoort (Netherlands) in two weeks.
